Steves Bar & Cafe

Steves Bar has been a Nedlands institution and icon since 1908. Over the past 110 years, there have been several name changes and redevelopments. The venue was originally called the Nedlands’ Park Hotel and it was a popular accommodation spot for farmers and country residents when visiting the city. The Hotel was purchased by Stephen McHenry in 1935 and soon after it became affectionately known as ‘Steves.’

Thanks to its close proximity to The University of Western Australia the bar became a popular haunt for local students, and by all reports, the midweek sessions were one of the true highlights of being a UWA student.

Today Steves has transitioned into a more upmarket venue that serves fine food and boasts one of WA’s most extensive European wine lists. Inside the venue, you will find a mix of casual and formal dining options, a stylish bar and even a wine store. Steves’ resident sommelier will happily assist shoppers in finding the perfect bottle to take home, as well as help diners when pairing wine with their meals. The state-of-the-art enomatic wine dispenser at Steves also allows patrons to sample a variety of wines in-store. A true oenophile’s delight.

Steves runs a number of different events and functions throughout the year that cater to a wide range of crowds. These ever-popular events include special luncheons, champagne and wine tastings, cheese tastings and also an AFL ‘game of the week’ every Saturday or Sunday throughout winter.

Steves is a popular gathering spot for some of Perth’s most respected and successful businessmen and women. Recently the Shellabears office enjoyed a wonderful evening at Steves to help celebrate the end of the financial year.

If you’re looking for a venue to host your work gathering, or maybe you’re just after a spot of lunch on a fine Perth weekend, then everyone at Shellabears can highly recommend Steves as an iconic Nedlands establishment that is well worth a visit.

Head on over to the Steves website to book your next function or party! It’s worth it, trust us.
